Concept

The Result

Patio Construction

Previously, the entrance to the garden, closest to the house, was adorned with a spacious patio. The installation of crisp, white porcelain tiles established a contemporary ambience. This area, designed as an extension of the indoor living space, was furnished with a sleek modern dining set to facilitate outdoor dining and leisure.

Pathway Development

A pathway comprising rectangular stepping stones was meticulously laid out across the lawn, leading from the patio to the rear of the garden. This feature served as both a visual and functional element, guiding visitors through the space while offering the practicality of a low-maintenance surface due to the choice of artificial turf.

Barbecue Area Realisation

To the right of the space, a barbecue area came into being, equipped with a built-in grill and ample preparation space. This zone was strategically placed for ease of access and integration into the garden’s social environment.

Patio Edge Design

The patio’s edge was reshaped to form a curvilinear boundary that progressed towards the barbecue area. This design choice introduced an element of organic form, providing a pleasing contrast to the straight lines of the surrounding architecture.

Raised Planter Installation

Raised planters were introduced throughout the garden, positioned to optimise plant health and ease of maintenance. The planters were not only functional but also enhanced the modern aesthetic, with the added feature of in-built lighting to create a warm glow in the evenings.

Privacy and Tree Planting

Mature trees were planted along the perimeter, especially at the rear of the garden, to establish privacy. These trees formed a natural barrier, crafting a sense of seclusion and tranquillity within the space.

Slope and Ditch Integration

The garden’s inherent slope and existing ditch were skill fully accommodated within the design. These features were transformed to complement the overall landscape, with the potential for the ditch to become part of a water feature, in line with the client’s consideration.

Texture Introduction

Gravel and other materials were incorporated to introduce varied textures to the garden. The auditory sensation of gravel underfoot added a new dimension to the garden’s sensory experience.

Lighting Scheme Implementation

A comprehensive lighting strategy was implemented, extending the garden’s usability into the evening hours and creating an inviting atmosphere. Strategic lighting placements emphasised the garden’s architectural plants, the pathway, and focal points such as the barbecue and potential water feature areas.

In reflection, the garden was transformed into a sophisticated sanctuary that elegantly merged aesthetic form with practical functionality, fulfilling the client’s initial vision for a modern, low-maintenance outdoor living area.
